1. Pressing Both Flush Buttons Simultaneously
Dual-flush toilets are designed for water efficiency: 0.8 gallons for liquid waste, 1.28 gallons for solid waste. Some users press both buttons together for a stronger flush.
While this may release more water, it is not recommended. Doing so can double the wear on internal components, reducing the lifespan of the flush mechanism.
2. Pouring Water into the Toilet Bowl
Some users pour wastewater into the toilet bowl, which can lower the water level and weaken the trap seal. The trap seal not only prevents stains on the bowl but also blocks sewer gases and bacteria from entering the bathroom. When the water level is too low, this barrier is lost, allowing odors and harmful germs to escape from the plumbing system.
3. Placing Objects in the Toilet Tank
Some users put objects in the tank to reduce water use, but this often weakens the flush and leads to double flushing. Instead of saving water, it increases usage and wears out the internal parts faster.
4. Flushing Without Closing the Lid or Only Halfway
Studies have shown that flushing can release aerosols carrying bacteria up to over one meter into the air. When the toilet lid is left open during flushing, these germs can easily spread throughout the bathroom.
These are common flushing mistakes many overlook. Have you made any?
We hope this helps you use your toilet properly and keep your bathroom clean.
